Nostrification (Diploma Recognition)
If enrolling in a public school or university, you MUST have previous foreign school reports recognized by the Ministry of Education. This process is called Nostrifikacija.
International Schools
For many expats, international schools offer a smoother transition with English-language instruction and recognized global curricula.
Knightsbridge School (KSI)
The most prestigious and expensive international school in the country. Offers full IB curriculum from ages 3-18. Extremely high standard of facilities.
Arcadia Academy
A well-regarded British international school located near Tivat airport. Follows the Cambridge curriculum and is popular with expat families in the bay.
QSI International School
Part of the global QSI network. Follows an American curriculum and mastery learning model. The go-to choice for diplomats and international business families in the capital.
Adriatic College
A newer institution in Budva catering largely to the Russian-speaking and European community, with a growing reputation.
Public vs. International
Local Public Schools
- Free (even for foreigners with residence).
- Best for long-term integration and learning the language.
- Instruction is 100% in Montenegrin.
- Classes can be large (30+ students).
International Schools
- Instruction in English (or Russian).
- Smaller class sizes and modern facilities.
- Expensive (Range: €5k - €15k+ per year).
Enrollment Checklist
General documents needed for school registration:
- Original Birth Certificate (with apostille/translation)
- Passport of the student and parents
- Transcripts from previous schools (translated)
- Proof of residence in Montenegro (List nepokretnosti or lease)
- Medical certificate (Ljekarsko uvjerenje) from a local doctor
- Completed application form from the specific school
Kindergarten (Vrtić)
"Vrtić" (Vrr-tee-ch) is for ages 1-5.
- JPU (Public):Very cheap (~€40/mo), strictly Montenegrin, crowded but loving.
- Private:€150-€400/mo. Often bilingual, smaller groups, flexible hours.
